Marrakech Royal Golf & El Jadida Royal Golf Clubs

Riad Akka organised its second golf championship for guests at the riad, held from 7th to 16th November 2008.

For a whole week, the ten participants played a variety of courses and coached rounds before taking part in the championship itself, to be held at the Royal Golf course of Marrakesh.

For the first time, our golf stay will include a day away from Marrakesh - an overnight trip to El Jadida.

Our guests will spend the night in a local luxury guesthouse close to the ancient Mazagan, providing the chance to explore the El Jadida Royal Golf Course.

Oukaimeden

At an altitude of 2600 metres above sea level, the little village of Oukaimeden would have remained in relative obscurity but for the fact that it is home to the highest ski resort in Africa. Clinging to the slopes of Jebel Attar, Oukaimeden has a chairlift going up to 3,250 metres above sea level as well as 4 straddle pulleys.

If the idea of taking your skis with you when setting off for a holiday in Marrakesh seems at first sight somewhat surreal, nevertheless, they can be put to good use during a certain number of months every year. Located about 70 kilometres from Marrakesh, Oukaimeden has all the services to be expected of a ski resort, such as equipment hire and skiing lessons, and of course slopes of differing levels of difficulty although the majority of them are quite challenging.

The charm of 'Ouka', as the locals call it, resides in its off-beat, casual atmosphere - you will find professional establishments carrying on their business next door to little stands set up by the local inhabitants to rent out third-hand bits of equipment. All the impromptu services on offer give Ouka the air of an open air souk - something completely new for skiers used to European ski resorts.

Even at the top of the chair-lift, the 'Marrakesh effect' is in evidence and there are enthusiastic youths competing to offer their services as unofficial (but paid) guides to the Grande Combe or Mouflons slopes, two very tricky pistes noires. Both are often icy and badly maintained, but offer the huge plus of being almost deserted.
There is all sorts of Moroccan street food on offer, and two more formal restaurants offer acceptable versions of international cuisine so there is always something for hungry visitors to eat.
